iFi iCAN PHANTOM 1.5

Reference Headphone Amplifier with Tube, Solid-State and Electrostatic Drive
Sale price$3,749

Description

The iFi iCAN PHANTOM 1.5 is a reference-class analogue headphone amplifier designed to drive virtually every type of headphone, from sensitive IEMs and demanding planar magnetics to high-impedance and electrostatic headphones. Its True Differential Balanced architecture delivers more than 15,000mW maximum output through the balanced connection, with more than 27V available into 600Ω loads.

Two completely separate Class A input stages allow listeners to switch between discrete solid-state and NOS GE5670 tube operation, while Tube+ provides a warmer valve presentation with reduced negative feedback. Three selectable gain settings—0dB, 12dB, and 24dB—allow the amplifier to be matched to headphones with widely different sensitivities.

For electrostatic headphones, the integrated iESL energizer provides selectable bias from 500V to 640V through calibrated SD cards, plus a dedicated 230V output for compatible vintage electrostatics. XBass Pro and XSpace Pro provide additional analogue sound tailoring, while the iFi Nexis app enables remote control, system monitoring, and over-the-air updates.

Solid-State, Tube & Tube+ Modes

The PHANTOM 1.5 incorporates separate fully balanced solid-state and valve input stages. The discrete J-FET solid-state stage emphasizes speed and precision, while matched NOS GE5670 tubes provide an alternative valve presentation. Tube+ further increases the tube character by reducing loop gain and negative feedback.

Integrated Electrostatic Energizer

Built-in iESL technology allows the PHANTOM 1.5 to drive compatible electrostatic headphones without requiring a separate energizer. Custom bias settings from 500V to 640V are configured through calibrated SD cards, while a dedicated 230V output supports compatible vintage electrostatic designs.

Extreme Headphone Power

The balanced output delivers more than 15,000mW maximum at 16Ω and more than 27V into 600Ω, providing substantial current and voltage for demanding planar magnetic and high-impedance headphones.

XBass Pro & XSpace Pro

XBass Pro provides three levels of analogue low-frequency adjustment, while XSpace Pro expands the perceived soundstage. Both can be adjusted in real time to suit different headphones, recordings, and listening preferences.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the iCAN PHANTOM 1.5 drive electrostatic headphones?
Yes. Its integrated iESL energizer supports compatible electrostatic headphones with custom bias settings from 500V to 640V, plus a dedicated 230V output for compatible vintage models.
What is the difference between Solid-State, Tube and Tube+ modes?
Solid-State uses a discrete J-FET Class A input stage, while Tube uses matched NOS GE5670 valves. Tube+ reduces loop gain and negative feedback to provide a warmer, more pronounced tube character.
How powerful is the iCAN PHANTOM 1.5?
The balanced output delivers more than 15,000mW maximum at 16Ω and more than 27V into a 600Ω load.
What changed from the original iCAN PHANTOM?
The 1.5 revision changes the gain settings from 0/9/18dB to 0/12/24dB, introduces a more precise interchangeable electrostatic bias system, improves controls and interface, adds VU meters, and expands Nexis functionality including tube-health monitoring.
Is the iCAN PHANTOM 1.5 a DAC?
No. It is an analogue reference headphone amplifier and electrostatic energizer. A separate DAC or analogue source is required.
