The Chord Electronics Prima is a compact, high-performance analog preamplifier from Chord's Choral range, designed to provide precise source control and flexible connectivity for premium two-channel audio systems. With five stereo analog inputs, fully balanced internal circuitry, adjustable input gain, and dedicated tape functionality, Prima combines sophisticated preamplifier performance with the distinctive compact design of Chord's Choral components.
Precision-machined from solid aluminum, Prima provides both front-panel and remote operation and is designed to integrate seamlessly with high-performance power amplifiers, including Chord Electronics' Étude.
Fully Balanced Analog Architecture
Prima uses fully balanced internal circuitry and a fully analog signal path designed to preserve the integrity of the incoming audio signal.
Its five stereo source inputs include one balanced XLR input and four unbalanced RCA inputs, providing flexibility for connecting DACs, phono stages, CD players, streamers with analog outputs, and other compatible source components.
Low-impedance outputs and input/output buffering further support Prima's role as the control center of a high-performance analog system.
Six Adjustable Input Gain Settings
Prima provides six independently selectable gain settings for each of its five inputs, allowing different source components to be better level-matched within the system.
The available gain settings—0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1, 1.25, and 1.5—provide useful flexibility when sources have different output levels.
Volume is controlled by a high-quality ALPS Blue Velvet potentiometer, maintaining the Prima's analog approach to signal control.
